A "Family" Affair
Performance Trailer Braking was founded in 2013 and the Barnett Family had been operating Performance Trailer Braking since Dan and Amanda Barnett purchased the company in October 2017.
November of 2025, Performance Trailer Braking was purchased from the Barnett's. The new owners are some familiar faces! Some of your beloved installers are now the owners! Chris Moore, Ashley O'Neill, Alyssa Bateman, Ken Fortuin and Chaiden Tate.
Chris Moore brings more than 30 years of hands-on mechanical experience, from aircraft and heavy equipment to the trailer systems our customers rely on every day. He leads PTB with a practical, no-nonsense approach and a deep commitment to customer safety—because he’s spent decades fixing the problems most people never see. His leadership is grounded in decades of service—including 25 years in the local volunteer fire department giving him a deeply rooted commitment to safety and clear-headed decision-making. As full-time RVers, Chris and Wendy understand the needs of the Performance Trailer Braking community firsthand and stay on the road to stay connected. His experience runs deep, and his priority is simple: keep customers safe and keep them moving.
Ken Fortuin is a proud veteran and former building contractor with 36 years of experience in the trades. Now a certified mobile RV technician, full-time RV traveler, and Brinkley RV owner, he brings his expertise and passion for craftsmanship to Performance Trailer Braking as a new owner. Living life on the road, Ken combines his deep technical background with his love for adventure, helping RV owners upgrade safely and confidently while traveling across the country.
Preston Wilmoth & Alyssa Bateman have been part of the PTB business in one form or another for almost 10 years. Both of us have operated the warehouse, and today we are the trusted installers you see out on the road. Preston has spent about 9 of those years as a lead installer and brings over 20 years of experience in the trailer industry, including extensive management background. Alyssa brings over 12 years of management experience across warehouse operations and food service. Together, we are the owners and operators of Preston Trailer Braking, proudly serving all of our customers’ installation needs. As a husband-and-wife team, traveling the country and working side-by-side has always been a dream of ours—and now we get to live that dream every day. We’re committed to continuing the work we love and using our experience to ensure every PTB customer enjoys a smooth, reliable, and quality experience, from the warehouse to installation.
Ashley O'Neill has a strong background in both auto mechanics and customer-focused service. Ashley worked as an auto mechanic while putting herself through college, gaining extensive hands-on experience. Over the last five years, she joined her family business, Performance Trailer Braking, bringing her skills as both an employee and an independent installer. My passion lies in ensuring customers' safety, enabling them to pursue their hobbies and passions while allowing me to continue traveling and doing what I love. I bring a charismatic, fun-loving personality to my work, fostering deep, personal connections with each customer (and their dogs 🐕) and creating a sense of community—a family atmosphere—around the business.
Chaiden Tate joins PTB as a new owner with a unique blend of hands-on technical skill and big-picture thinking. With five years of plumbing experience and a strong background in stock markets and macroeconomics, he brings a strategic mindset to identifying new markets, enhancing product offerings, and helping customers make smarter, safer decisions on the road. He’ll also spearhead PTB’s marketing efforts—building educational content, strengthening our social media presence, and leading seminars designed to help RVers travel confidently. Chaiden and his girlfriend, Bailee Burnett, travel together and work side-by-side, with Bailee supporting installations and keeping their business running smoothly. They recently purchased their first camper and are excited to take on this new chapter, exploring the country, meeting PTB customers, and enjoying plenty of fishing, hunting, and new adventures along the way.
Wendy Moore brings more than 25 years of accounting experience, spanning everything from day-to-day financial operations to high-level strategic leadership. At PTB, she keeps the financial engine running smoothly while occasionally jumping in alongside Chris on trailer projects when needed. As full-time RVers, Wendy and Chris stay closely connected to the community they serve, understanding the needs of customers because they live the lifestyle themselves. Her focus is clear: run a tight, transparent financial operation that supports safe, reliable service for every customer on the road.
Since taking over, we've worked tirelessly to push PTB's standards of expertise and customer support to new limits and do our best to make sure every customer is treated like we would want to be treated.
We have a small team of honest, hard working folks who are part of the "family" and help keep things running smoothly for our customers.
In addition, we have teamed up with several mobile independent installers who travel around the country to do brake, axle, and suspension installations.

"Wow, what a difference!"
Just finished having Disc Brakes installed yesterday by "Bill" the installer for Performance Brakes. Wow, what a difference! After completing yesterday we left on a 175 mile test journey Read More. Drove two lane twists, small towns, and freeway. The braking ability is much more than I expected. During my test ride with installer he had me do a hard brake situation going about 25 mph and we came to a stop in about half the distance of my old brakes. These brakes give you a lot of comfort when driving knowing I can stop quickly if needed. Interestingly, the old brakes which we took off only had about 8k miles on them and the pads were half worn and the electromagnets were badly worn on two of the wheels. Granted we do more two lane twisty road driving than freeway driving. Bill the installer was very meticulous about his work and in addition found some wires that weren't crimp right (not related to brakes) and fixed them without saying anything until he was done. I would recommend him without any hesitation for Brakes and suspension work. I will report back if there's any change after our 175 mile trip home tomorrow.

"Great installation job"
Zack,
Just wanted to give you some positive feedback. I'm pleased with how the disc brakes have been working. They have a smoother engagement feel compared to the old ones. I haven't Read Moreexperienced any trailer brake error messages, which is really great. I haven't had to make any panic stops yet, so can’t comment on that. I've put about 1200 miles on the trailer since getting the disc brakes.
Thanks again for the great installation job.
